1957 Voting Machines Film (curtains and levers)

Oct 20, 2016
A promotional film looking at the advantages of automatic voting machines vs paper ballots.

Found this fascinating. My first Presidential vote in 1984 was for Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro and was on one of these.

we voted in Altoona PA on paper ballots, marked with pen, and when we turned in our ballots, the election workers tore off a corner and gave it back to us. The corner, proving we voted, was good for a free cup of coffee all over town.

Our high school was a voting location, and one of those machines was stored there. We were allowed to use it for all our in house elections (student council, cheerleaders, homecoming queen, etc) It was nice preparation for the real thing when we turned 18 and could vote.

My college also had one which we used for various campus elections

My first vote was for a Circuit Court Judge (a Democrat) in Kentucky. He was a long time family friend. Fast forward to 1983 and he officiated at our wedding.

First presidential vote was for Humphrey, one of the finest candidates to never become President.
