Anything with old in the name turns off customers from younger demographics. I remember a slogan GM ran, something like, this is not your fathers Oldsmobile. I knew that ad campaign was bound to fail.

Why would that have become an issue after all that time?

It reached a crescendo when baby boomers started making major purchases.
