So what I am making is pretty far removed from traditional Memorial Day fare: my mother's Pork Potato Pie, which is similar to tourtiere. It has sage pork sausage, crumbled; mashed potatoes; and grilled onions all mixed together inside a normal pie crust. My mother made her pie crust from scratch; I use the Pillsbury refrigerated one (no room to roll out pastry in my tiny kitchenette). It's a treasured meal for my wife as well as my daughter.

bought from a local place yesterday, to reheat. Homemade potato salad with lots of eggs, very mustardy and vinegary, the way we like it. Dessert is looking like it will be leftover cake, which we shared at the church potluck today because today is our 40th wedding anniversary.
