Mental Health Support
Related: About this forumWell, after several hours of trying to find assistance for someone with mental health issues,
And who cannot pay for anything, I have turned up exactly squat.
Because they don't want to help anyone who cannot pay lots for it.
They want someone like me to die as quickly and quietly as I can. (We don't want to upset the other peons, now do we?)
I am finding it harder and harder each day to find a reason not to accommodate them.
I just checked the bank account. Not only is considering any kind of help out of the question, I guess I will have to wait for a few days to pick up that heart prescription because we can't afford it at the moment. I don't recall if I have enough to make it till then. I think I do.
Maybe I should just stop taking all of this stuff. I take ten pills each morning and eight each evening. That should do the trick, actually. When my father had to stop with this heart meds in order to have some other procedure done, he died within 24 hours of stopping them.
Because living like this is ridiculous. It becomes crystal clear why some people go on massive sprees of suicidal destruction. Why they gun down random people in the street before doing it to themselves. Why they blow themselves and others into pieces. It is the complete impotence of this position. The fact that, apparently in my case at least, there is nothing to be done. The reason why there is nothing to be done. ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) And, then having to live in a society that flaunts the fact that there could be something done, but we are not going to do it for someone like you.
How can someone not give into the darkness when they find themselves in this corner?

(85 posts)I wish there was something I could do to help with these situations. All I can do is let you know that your life is important even when the current system doesn't help. Their are people who care.

They sound like a group that might be able to help you.

(8,413 posts)I appreciate the link. It appears that they still don't have any plan for someone who has not worked in over ten years and has nothing to give them.
But, I will check them out.
How about this weather change, eh?

The weather change is at least an improvement!

You deserve to live. You deserve to enjoy sunsets and birdsong and good food and laughter... You deserve to NOT have this hanging over your head.

(8,413 posts)If I could, I would be solving the world's ills.
Which is a joke since I cannot even deal with my own.
But, the reason for it is so simple, and yet no one seems willing to address it. Or even mention it for that matter.
Oh well, I am just destined to become a 'crack' person, i.e.: someone who 'falls through the cracks' in the name of 'economy' and 'Gross Domestic Product'.

(17,309 posts)Do you have a state mental hospital? If your friend is desperate for help, see if they can check into the hospital and go to the psych ward. They might require your friend to stay for 3 days or whatever. If his/her problems are life-threatening, your friend should tell the doctor that he/she wants to be committed. The doctors will often oblige. Sometimes that's the only way a poor person can get psychological help. Good luck to your friend and don't despair. Just remember that life is short. It won't be long before you'll be on your way to the next thing.

(8,168 posts)I just heard someone talk the other night about how well-equipped they are to help. "Danger to self or others" is the dividing line and seems to be taken seriously.

(8,413 posts)However, if one is not holding a phone with one hand and a gun or knife against the temple in the other, they don't seem willing to do much, if anything.
Also, according to those who I have spoken with who did use such a service, they kept trying to get the person to tell them where they were, so that they could 'intervene'. (The person was using a cheap burner phone and, for some reason, they could not get it 'pinged'.)
Police interventions for those suffering from mental health episodes are not exactly... smooth... most of the time, so using such a 'resource' is problematic at best.
(I have been literally cussed out by suicide line operators because I was not holding a hostage or standing with my throat already cut. I have been lectured by suicide line operators because I was not so despondent that I was in tears and inarticulately screaming at them. So, in my experience, those things are a waste of time if you want help before you start your 'rampage'. Which is about as silly a thing as I have ever heard, since that is the best time to get help.)
