Related: About this forumMy son may have testicular cancer age 27
Per an ultrasound and physical examination last night at an ER. He got a STAT referral to a urologist. Just got a promotion to a new position at his work and hes very scared and stressed to have the work pressure and now this. You just never know what curve balls life will throw.

(107,012 posts)May you get the good news you seek.
Should you not get the news you want, just know that testicular cancer is one of the most curable and need not impact his life expectancy. So while I hope he is negative, the prognosis is nearly always good.

(Yes, his legacy is tainted by doping, but I'm citing him here because he's alive and well nearly 30 years later, and a symbol of hope and encouragement for our DU friend and their family).

or playing 1000 consecutive NHL games.

(2,517 posts)And a HUG to you. I know two young men who have or I should say had, testicular cancer. One was I think 14 yrs old (now a high school Junior) and the other is a junior in college. Both have had successful treatment and are cancer free. I hope the diagnosis is different for your son but even if it isnt, take heart in knowing that there is great and successful treatment out there for him. Keeping you and your son in my thoughts.

(34,891 posts)My step grandneice's husband had this diagnosis 20 years ago, apparently in one testicle. His children, born after his treatment (about which I regrettably have no details) are now in college, and he is around to be proud of him.

(779 posts)He may need to have the affected testicle removed. Make certain he is given the option of storing semen prior to undergoing chemotherapy or radiation.

(2,884 posts)morning at UNM Cancer Center. Surgery Nov 8. Testicle looks cancerous per ultrasound. Has to be removed. Hes pondering prosthetic (more does he do it at time of surgery or at a later date).
Right testicle appears healthy so this is the good news. I would prefer him to bank sperm but hes just all over the map right now so I am letting him process.
Thanks for all the support to all my DU family.

(2,884 posts)I hate to reference the election but slogging along with that has been difficult.
But I have what can only mean good news.
Stage 1 Seminoma testicular cancer no spread to lymph nodes. Surgery was Nov 8 clean margins. Grueling wait til 21st ct scan that shows no spread to lymph nodes. He may have the choice of surveillance or possibly a round of chemo. Will know more when we meet with oncologist in a few weeks.
He waited way too long to even go into the ER for his first ultrasound Oct 1. We have been in a tailspin since then. The prosthetic came in last minute (night before surgery) and he decided to go with it. I think he is ok with that decision.
It has been oh so difficult. His employer just started a program to help with fertility so he has decided to bank sperm no matter what. Wise I believe.
It has meant a lot knowing you are all here thinking of us.
I know there is still a journey ahead. And I know that many stories dont have such a positive note at this point.
Thankful for where we are and also thankful for all of you. This Thanksgiving.
