The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies says it is "outraged" that eight Palestinian medics were killed along with six Civil Defence first responders and a UN staff member by Israeli forces in southern Gaza.
Five ambulances, a fire truck and a UN vehicle were struck in al-Hashahin on 23 March, a UN official said. Fifteen bodies were recovered from the scene on Sunday.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society said a ninth medic was missing and accused Israel of targeting its staff.
Israel's military said troops fired on vehicles "advancing suspiciously" without headlights or emergency signals. It said a Hamas operative and "eight other terrorists" were among those killed.

Funerals have been held in southern Gaza for Palestinian medics and emergency workers killed during an Israeli siege of the city of Tel al-Sultan last week.
Fifteen bodies were found buried in a mass grave on Sunday, near the wreckage of mangled vehicles.
Among them were eight medics from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS), six members of Gaza's civil defence services, and one United Nations worker.
Retrieval crews were blocked from accessing the site for days, while the ninth ambulance officer is still missing.

(36,201 posts)Someone should be along shortly to try to divert attention from this atrocity with one of the following proven Hasbara tactics:
1. Ignore it and hope it goes away
2. Get the messaging from right-leaning nationalist sources that detest Palestinians being treated as though they're human.
3. Bring up some tangent about anything (try being pedantic about spelling, grammar, the use of a correct term, whataboutery, it all should do the trick).
I guess all these rescue workers were combat aged males (I read that being used as some sort of excuse in GD for killing Palestinian males) so they don't matter. Which doesn't work as an excuse because it would mean the same applies to combat aged male Israeli hostages.

(2,446 posts)Hence the silence. Any attempt to try to defend this by raising the spectre of TERRORISTS, HAMAS! would look very bad indeed. Though, honestly, that doesn't deter some. They might be along shortly.
We had an ice storm here and I was without power for 4 days (can't imagine living like that for 1.5 years!). So I missed this awful story and am just commenting now.
OCHA, the UN agency for humanitarian assistance had this to say:
"...very emblematic of the point weve reached in Gaza. What is happening here is defyingit defies decency, it defies humanity, it defies the law. It is a war without limits.
No limits to what Israel is allowed to do to Palestinians. That our governments in the West let it go on for well over a year is shameful.
Similarly, no limits on the extent to which some will continue to turn a blind eye, deny it's happening, claim HAMAS! HUMAN SHIELDS! project blame elsewhere, change the narrative, etc etc. It's DARVO applied to a whole group of terrorized people.
I despise it not just because it's so dishonest but also because it actually helps continue the barbarity and slaughter with impunity. It runs cover for the indefensible.
