Biden Administration Considering Decree To End Offshore Drilling In Certain Coastal Waters

The Biden Administration is preparing to issue a landmark decree that would permanently ban new offshore oil and gas development projects in some United States coastal waters, ensuring the protection of sensitive marine areas before the President leaves the White House on January 20th.

According to latest reporting from Bloomberg, the Biden Administration is gearing up to issue a permanent decree that bans the new offshore development in portions of the outer continental shelf off the coast of parts of the United States.

The White House has the ultimate decision making power to permanently protect U.S. waters from oil and gas leasings, and Presidents are not specifically empowered to revoke the designations.

As a result, it would be difficult for Trump to revoke the designations made when he takes office. The latest news comes as lawmakers and activists have been hoping that the Biden Administration takes environmental action before Trump takes office.
