Barack Obama
Related: About this forumSo it's another one of those "Obama = Bush" days on the Intertubes... Sigh.
With the Huffington Post front-paging the famous Bush-Obama morph pic with headline "George W Obama".
And the Drudge Report doing similar mudslinging.
And many "progressives" chiming in, flexing keyboard muscles, looking tough.
Glad for this group.

(40,416 posts)Panicking, running around in circles with their hair on fire. Overreacting to a law put in place by W's congress, but by overwhelming bipartisan majorities.
Obama had nothing whatsoever to do with this. And it can only be stopped by congress.
I hate it, too. But this is not Obama's policy, let alone his law, that brought this to existence.

He didn't set up this apparatus. The whole Homeland Security shebang was put in place under Bush.

(91,873 posts)Although the United States was once a pioneer in connecting schools to the internet, were now falling behind while other nations move forward with aggressive investment in digital learning and technology education. In South Korea, for example, all schools have high-speed internet connections, and all teachers are trained in digital learning. Printed textbooks will be phased out by 2016.
The fact is, schools without internet access put our students at a disadvantage.
Thats why President Obama is unveiling a bold, new initiative called ConnectED, which will connect 99 percent of Americas students to the internet through high-speed broadband and high-speed wireless within 5 years.

It's an exciting time in education, there's plenty of need for improvement, but lot's of hope on the horizon!

(10,893 posts)must be smoking some serious crack. The type of people who make that assertion always fail to look at the big picture in terms of not just foreign policy, but also domestic policy. Bush ll actually escalated the wars, while Obama has been drawing them down. Bush ll raised unemployment, but Obama has nearly doubled him up in just 5 years in regards to job growth (about 2M jobs to 1.08). Bush ll never supported gay rights or women's rights, and he tried to privatize SS altogether.
To equate Obama with any Republican just because of a few unfavorable policies is downright foolish.

(22,541 posts)people knowing what the programs really do and what is allowed by law for what purpose, I would feel so much better about the arguing. Mostly I've seen inaccurate and/or incomplete reporting that leads to people making incorrect assumptions.
Which does not mean, of course, that anyone has to like the programs even when they are fully informed about them. It's just that nobody IS informed. And there is always cause for concern about abuses. That's a worthy discussion. One that hopefully was done by Congress before approving the programs, no? If not, we can still pressure them to tighten up the language or even disband the ops.
Worthy discussions all. But once again, the attacks on one guy when there are all those dudes who wrote the law and passed it getting off Scot free... Well, it's just not right. As usual.

(14,180 posts)They use this stuff to make more to do, like having President Obama explain how the NAS thing works, so he can't put all the time needed in what the President want to do to fix America.
They also is using this to hide other votes, like the one coming up either the 10th or the 17th, on cutting the Food Stamp program. They have it under a Farm Aid Bill to try and keep it on the down low.
The repukes have it out for the President because he has a plan to get us running. They can't have that.

(4,309 posts)It drives me crazy. To equate Obama to Bush is to insult the man and ignore the truth. Bush started two wars and was alienating the rest of the world. President Obama has wound down those wars and, thanks to him, we have a sane foreign policy. Also, Bush's economic policies were a disaster. Obama has been trying, despite Republican opposition, to build a healthy economy. Just compare their records on women's rights. There is no comparison. Despite the naysayers and haters, President Obama remains committed to moving this country forward and I respect him for that. I come here, to the BOG, for sanity.

(126 posts)Is Obama infallible? No, and I take issue with numerous choices he has made. But that being said, to ignore the role of congress in this whole mess in favor of directing all the vitriol at President Obama strikes me as a unwise decision. Do I think Obama's justifications for the program are correct? No, but I realize that Obama's approval of these practices are merely part of the problem, at worst. Now, I've heard posters on the GD speak about electing a "real liberal" to the presidency such as Senator Warren or Senator Sanders, and I have the most immense respect in the world for those two. However, I feel as if electing either of them the WH might result in them moving to the right, as Obama has. In truth, I'd much rather elect 20 Bernie Sanders's to the senate than elect one of them to the presidency. And although I'm apprehensive saying this, I do feel as if some on the GD board are looking to make this debacle exclusively about Obama's presidency, and in my view, that's as bad as attempting to absolve him of blame.

(11,550 posts)And it's the same group that once facts do come out, and pretty much proves they were over reacting, continue to deny the facts. Now of course I also see a lot of new posters coming in since the "scandals" started being pushed by the right wing and the media. l think it's pretty obvious what is happening when new posters only complain about the president, and never post anything positive.
I also think that this is all about the elections next year, and trying the same tactics that were being used in 2010 to try and keep the left from voting because they are to angry with the president and his administration. It worked in 2010, and they hope it will work this time.
All I can say is things are getting crazier by the day here, but polls seem to show that the majority of democrats are still supporting the president, and all the BS scandals do not seem to be working as well as republicans thought they would.
This crap about "illegal" wiretapping us just the latest right wing smear tactic. The right is trying to pin all the crap Bush and the republican congress put into law on president Obama and his administration, and once again some on the left have jumped on the bandwagon and seem to forget just how long these programs have been going on, and that every american citizen is NOT BEING WIRETAPPED! Even when the facts come out and prove they have once again jumped the gun, many here just keep on spewing the BS, over and over and over no matter what, and that's what is really crazy.
I think people forget what happened in 2010 when they decided to sit it out, and Wisconsin, Main, Florida, and all the other states that are not controlled by republicans should show everyone just how bad things will be if they sit out 2014.

As one DUer responded recently to an anti-Obama/Dem OP: "Thanks for your help! Those 2014 votes aren't going to just surpress themselves!"
There was a time when people so blatantly attempting to turn voters away from the Dem Party would have been PPR'd without hesitation. Now those same people are hailed as heroes, and rec'd to the Greatest Page in record time.
