(58,785 posts)Four elections ahead?
Notably, house members in general will be fairly likely to lose or leave their seats over the 3 intervening elections, especially any who don't reflect the views of the majority of the constituents.
They'd then, of course, have to prevail in the fourth, the 2028 Democratic primary. And there's a trick. Senate candidates have to prevail with statewide electorates, not district constituencies. Bernie Sanders might seem to suggest this moderating effect can be different, but VT's a special situation that actually kind of proves the point. Besides being a small white state, a significant portion of their Republicans have been voting to keep a socialist Independent in office who they apparently feel keeps them satisfied more than a Democrat would.
Meanwhile, incumbent senators have their own ideas, including our senate majority leader (!), and new stars have been rising.
