Keith Ellison is the reason why I want Ilhan Omar to run for statewide election in MN in the future.
Ellison is a progressive non white muslim who was a US Representative from MN-5(Omar’s district) when he got elected MN state Attorney General.- statewide elected office. Ellison won re-election to the MN state Attorney General’s office in 2022 by a narrower margin when the republicans were accusing Ellison of being soft on crime.
Ilhan Omar is the younger and female version of Keith Ellison.
I am waiting to see what higher statewide elected office in MN will Keith Ellison will run for.
Tim Walz is eligible to run for a 3rd term for MN Governor in 2026 and Tina Smith is likely to run for another US Senate term in 2026. If Tim Walz decides not to run for re-election to MN Governor in 2026, Ellison will be competing against Lt Governor Peggy Flanagan and Secretary of State Steve Simon.
Simon received 1,345,685 in 2022/1,328,502 in 2018.
Walz/Flanagan received 1,312,349/1,393,096 in 2018.
Ellison received 1,254,371 in 2022/1,249,407 in 2018.
Blaha received 1,168,185 in 2022/1,250,524 in 2018.
Steve Simon and Keith Ellison got more votes in 2022 than they did in 2018.
