1. I can see Hoyer Stepping Down

Steny's getting up there in years. Unfortunately most of his district is Southern MD, which is pretty much Redneckistan once you get south of La Plata. I don't know much about it other than what I have heard friends say. Fortunately, that area includes much of southern PG County, which is strongly Dem. I would like to see Angela Alsobrooks take a run for it. She's doing a great job as PG County Executive, and I don't want to lose her.

I honestly don't see Trone making the Senate. He barely won his district last time against a Trumper.

Maryland has a strong Democratic bench.

A Democrat from Anne Arundel County replaces Sarbanes.
A Democrat from Prince George’s County replaces Hoyer.

There are 2 things that prevents Raskin from running for the US Senate(undergoing chemotherapy for cancer and becoming chairman of the US House Oversight and Reform Committee assuming the Democrats regain control of the US House in order to torture James Comer-KY-the top Republican in the US House Oversight and Reform committee. Raskin has been a thorn to Boebert-CO,Gaetz-FL,Jordan-OH,and Taylor Greene-GA.)

There is nothing preventing Sarbanes from running for the US Senate. If Sarbanes decides to run for the US Senate, he will be the frontrunner. His father Paul Sarbanes served in the US House and Senate from 1971 to 2007. Paul Sarbanes was highly respected elected official in MD. John Sarbanes will be following his father’s footstep.

If Steny decides to bow out, she might consider it.

Rushern Baker may want to make a play for it as well. He was a good County Executive. Granted, his predecessor set a pretty low bar. But, he has a lot of goodwill in the county.

It's funny - I'm in MD-4, but close to 5, 3, and 8. I was hoping that we'd get put into 8, so that Jamie Raskin could be my Rep.

Honestly, should Cardin decide to retire, I think it's going to be a Democratic scrum, the way that the Governor's race was. Nobody predicted the young, charismatic Black businessman with no political experience to to win the Governor's race. But Moore is doing great so far. There's probably a dark horse candidate out there that's going to win it.
