Dane County Circuit Court candidates share concern about Trump

As voters begin casting absentee ballots in the election for Dane County Circuit Court’s Branch 1 seat, immigration attorney Huma Ahsan and incumbent Judge Ben Jones faced off Friday.

The candidates shared their thoughts on justice, sentencing and protecting local courts from the Trump administration at a forum hosted by West High School’s Civics Club.

The seat is one of the few contested local races in the Spring Election, which concludes April 7. It’s also one of the county’s only contested Circuit Court races in the last decade and the first since 2018.

Branch 1 is currently assigned to handle civil litigation, as well as family and probate cases. Circuit Court judges serve six-year terms.
