Waterfront park on Seattle's Pier 58 gets opening date

Pier 58, a new park on Seattle's downtown waterfront, will open on July 25, the city announced Thursday. A free community event is scheduled that day to celebrate the grand opening of the 50,000-square-foot pier.

Situated between the Great Wheel and the Seattle Aquarium, Pier 58 is a final piece of the $806 million, 20-acre Waterfront Park project.

Work on the pier — which had to be rebuilt after partially collapsing five years ago — began in 2022 when the city's Office of the Waterfront and Civic Projects awarded a $34.5 million contract to Pacific Pile & Marine LP.

The park was slated to be complete last year but was delayed by the 13-month concrete drivers strike and a dispute with the contractor. The company, however, is still involved with the project, recent permits filings show.
