Judge allows Sodo housing challenge to proceed
A King County Superior Court judge will allow a court challenge over housing in Seattle's Sodo neighborhood to continue, rejecting an attempt to quash the case by the city and landowner Chris Hansen.
Judge Haydee Vargas' ruling responds to a legal filing the Port of Seattle brought forward in April seeking to scuttle a newly passed rezoning measure.
The ruling leaves unsettled a dispute between the port on one side and the city and Hansen on the other over the legality of a city ordinance allowing up to 990 units of housing, half of which would be income-restricted, in part of Sodo. The three-block area includes Lumen Field, T-Mobile Park and properties largely owned by Hansen, a billionaire who sought to build an indoor arena in the neighborhood.
All of those facts create the conditions where I question whether or not this ordinance is for a specific part of land, Vargas said in her closing remarks.
