State Rep. Shaun Scott rallies community support for proposed First Hill crisis care center at town hall style meeting

On Monday evening, activists and First Hill neighbors gathered at the Vermillion Art Gallery & Bar for a night of comedy and civics hosted by State Representative Shaun Scott (D‑43rd District: Seattle). Advertised as a Crisis Care Center town hall, the community meeting sought to galvanize public support for a proposed second behavorial health crisis care center at 1145 Broadway in the former Polyclinic building.

If completed, the facility would be the second of five behavioral health crisis centers funded by the Crisis Cares Centers Levy, a property tax levy passed by King County voters in April 2023 that sought to allocate about $1.25 billion towards expanding mental and behavioral health services in King County, with the majority of funds going towards the construction of five crisis care centers spread throughout the county.

56.6% of county voters who turned out backed the levy.

Advocates of the centers are trying to address gaps in care for folks seeking comprehensive, publicly accessible mental and behavioral health resources, providing services that might not be typically available through private health insurance, and to area residents who are underinsured or uninsured.
