Ranked Choice Voting NOFA
Arlington County implemented RCV for the first time in the June 20, 2023, Democratic Primary Election for the office of County Board (2 seats). It was approved for use in all future primaries for County Board on December 18, 2023. On February 24, 2024, the County Board approved the use of ranked choice voting in the November 5, 2024, General Election for the County Board race. On February 22, 2025, the Board extended the use of Ranked Choice Voting to the upcoming November 4, 2025, County Board General Election Race.
Previous educational efforts around the rollout and implementation of Ranked Choice Voting in the County have leveraged materials produced by the Virginia Department of Elections. Before taking any further action on the use of Ranked Choice Voting for future general elections, the Board wishes to conduct additional education and outreach efforts.
The primary objective of this funding is to increase public knowledge and awareness of how RCV works in advance of the November 2025 general election. The goal is to ensure that voters feel informed and confident in using RCV when casting their ballots.
For FY2026, the County Board allocated $60,000 in one-time funding to support further Ranked Choice Voting education and outreach.
