Here's who's running for the Portland Public Schools board in the May 20 election
PORTLAND, Ore. Oregon's next round of county special elections is coming up on May 20, and the biggest races on the ballot in Portland are all about Portland Public Schools (PPS). Four of the seven seats on the school district's board of directors will be on the ballot, along with a key bond renewal ballot measure.
PPS board elections are held in May of odd-numbered years, electing members to four-year terms that begin in July of that year. Candidates are elected to represent specific geographic districts and they have to be residents of those districts, but the elections themselves are all citywide.
The four seats on the ballot this year are Zone 1, which includes South and Southwest Portland; Zone 4, which is primarily in North Portland; Zone 5, which is primarily in Northeast Portland; and Zone 6, which is primarily in Southeast Portland. The remaining board members were elected in 2023 and are still midway through their terms.
