Two Washington County deputies were shot Thursday evening near Hagg Lake outside of Gaston, the Washington County Sheriffs Office reported.
The suspect was also shot and taken into custody shortly afterward, officials said. His name and details about his condition were not immediately available.
A news conference with Sheriff Pat Garrett was held around 10 p.m. at OHSU Hospital. Garrett said one of the deputies has serious injuries, and the second has non-life-threatening injuries.
Garrett said the suspect shot at deputies while they were out searching for him in the woods, and several tactical negotiation team members returned fire, wounding the suspect. He said the suspect surrendered after being shot and was transported to a local hospital. Garrett did not have an update on his condition as of Thursday night. He also thanked the local law enforcement and medical agencies that helped with the incident, and thanked family members of the officers and community members for their support.

Seriously, though, I wish the deputy a full and speedy recovery. The suspect was reported stealing guns out of a locked cabinet on someone's property. That might have been a disaster in the making.
