Canton Dems pick Babcock, Smuckler, Cole in at-large council race, Mayle for Ward 1
CANTON − Canton City Councilwoman at-large Crystal Smith will not return to council for a second term.
Smith, who faced anonymous campaign attacks leading up to Tuesday’s election, finished fourth among five Democratic candidates for the three city at-large seats, unofficial election results show.
James O. Babcock, an at-large councilman since 2012, garnered the most votes among the Democratic at-large candidates. He secured 27% of the 6,884 Democratic votes cast, unofficial election results show.
Bill Smuckler, who has served 32 nonconsecutive years as a city councilman, came in second with nearly 26% of the vote.
