Just heartbroken over Helene

My favorite place besides California to visit is WNC. Now I may never again. Once things settle down, there should be tourism to help them survive financially. I worry all the unique lodges and B&Bs will be gone now. Bless everyone. Now they're doing recovery. I cannot believe this nightmare

Towns wiped off the map. One near us, Steinhatchee a coastal town with mostly trailers and working people, gone. These people had little to begin with and now, devastation and homelessness in a state that punishes the homeless.

My heart goes out to anyone who lost family members or their homes. 💔

It’s so rare for a hurricane to do that level of damage so far inland. Those folks are simply not prepared to handle that kind of sudden disaster. They’ll rebuild, but they’ve lost so many people. We’ll be doing a long road trip that takes us through some of that area on the shortest, most direct route, in a few weeks.

That was my wife’s and I favorite vacation spot. We visited there more than any other spot. Even brought my mother in law there.

no power, no internet, no running water, and almost no cell service until this afternoon

Beats the alternative.

there isn't an alternative route. It is rugged area. It goes beyond my comprehension.
