Andrew Cuomo supporter prepares reception ahead of likely mayoral bid
NEW YORK — Supporters of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo are mobilizing to boost him as he prepares to run for New York City mayor.
Charles Myers, an investment banker and consultant, sent a “save the date” invitation for a March 4 Manhattan event billed as a “reception” for the former governor — the clearest indication yet Cuomo is readying a mayoral bid.
“Our city needs a proven manager to address crime, housing affordability and other critical issues as well as strong leadership to stand up to the Trump administration,” Myers wrote in the email obtained by POLITICO. ”I have been horrified and furious as the Trump administration undermines our core democratic values and attacks our civil liberties. More than ever, NYC needs effective, fearless leadership to defend our city and those critical values.”
Myers declined to comment about the event. Rich Azzopardi, a spokesperson for Cuomo, also did not comment.
