Decision 2025: Tens of thousands cast early ballots in runoff election

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Albuquerque voters have already cast over 57,000 ballots ahead of next Tuesday’s runoff election, marking nearly a 16% turnout.

Bernalillo County officials report early voting numbers are significant, with Deputy County Clerk Kelli Baca noting the trend of increased participation in runoff elections.

“I think because it gains a lot of momentum because it was a highly contested mayoral race,” said Baca. “You’re seeing the debates, you’re seeing the two candidates on the news more, you’re seeing the city council districts very visible on social media platforms. And I think it’s encouraging people to come out and vote.”

Baca also warned that waiting until Tuesday could result in long lines, as only 50 polling places will be open.
