Two Nevada State Police troopers who were assisting a motorist were struck by a vehicle and killed in a hit-and-run this morning on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas, authorities said.
The vehicle was later located, along with the suspected driver, authorities said.
Our prayers are with the families and loved ones of our fallen troopers, State Police said in a statement.
Metro Police were investigating the incident, authorities said.
The troopers were hit about 3:20 a.m. while assisting a driver who appeared to have fallen asleep in their vehicle and was pulled over on the interstate near D Street, Metro Police Deputy Chief Branden Clarkson said.
The troopers were hit by a white Chevrolet HHR, which fled the scene, Clarkson said. The troopers were identified Thursday night as Michael Abbate and Alberto Felix, according to state police.

Wonder Why
(4,796 posts)For example, minimum:
First DUI - restricted Drivers License for a period. Only during certain hours.
Second DUI - 30 day jail. Must drive own car or have permission of owner who signs form that owner knows the driver has been convicted twice and that next time their car will be seized. If no signed form, then driver gets charged with felony auto theft.
Third DUI - License taken for 10 years. Car seized. Jail time for driving w/o one.
Hit & Run with no injury, 30 days. Then same as First DUI
Hit & Run or DUI with injury or death - Manslaughter and illegal use of a "deadly weapon" for death. Attempted Manslaughter and illegal use of a "deadly weapon" for injury. Minimum jail time specified.
The exact punishment can be different but the concept is what needs to be adopted.
