I thought they'd endorse Demuth, since she at least has experience in government.

They've never endorsed a woman for statewide office.

Qualls is a perennial candidate but he's never won an election. He's Black and Demuth is mixed race, but being a woman, even a more qualified one, seems to be more of a drag on a candidate than race. That said, Qualls is likely to be easier to beat than Demuth, and there's still the primary, in which Mike Lindell will also participate.
