Cape Elizabeth police warn of sign theft ahead of June 10 election

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine — The Cape Elizabeth Police Department has received several reports of political signs being damaged or destroyed, with the June 10 election looming.

"We would like to remind residents that it is against the law to damage or remove political signs from both public and private property," police said in a Tuesday social media post.

Next month, residents will vote on the school budget, a town center zoning ordinance, a solar panel project, and whether or not to approve an $86M renovation of both the elementary and middle schools, which has some residents worried about tax hikes.

Officials said reports of theft have come from various parts of town. As election season approaches, police remind residents of the laws surrounding political signage to prevent further vandalism.
