He should have been soundly rejected by the Senate. But to resign would indicate some grasp reality and at least, a vestigal moral compass, for which there's no evidence..

Washington has a long history that if you leave you got away with it. A lot of this is because once your gone congress has no power over you. Personally I would prefer a perp walk.
