The two teens accused of plotting a school shooting in Lee County appeared in front of a judge Sunday morning after they were taken into custody on Saturday.
Connor Pruett, 13, and Phillip Byrd, 14, will be held for 21 days in secure juvenile detention.
The two teens were detained on Thursday and held for a mental health evaluation after a school resource officer at Harns Marsh Middle School was notified a student had a gun in his backpack.
While the deputy did not find a gun, the deputy uncovered Pruitt and Byrd spoke to each other during lunch about a school shooting plot.

(825 posts)During the fall semester a note was found that had a list of teachers to kill and those to take hostage and how it would be done. The principal, in her first year in this district, started a serious investigation that involved the police, parents and the kids. Several were expelled and but no charges were brought (to my knowledge). This principal took so much heat for this investigation from the community who said "they are just kids being kids and this was a stupid game they were playing." In the spring of that school year Columbine happened. I asked her later if anyone had thanked her or apologized for their comments and her response was a resounding "no." They are always "kids being kids" until they are kids being mass murderers. If they have a list and a plan or even discussions, take that very serious and act to protect the school and the kids and adults who spend so much time there.
