Related: About this forumI now know why I don't remember much about the 2003 blizzard.
There are so many comparisons about what Denver is about to get this weekend to the 2003 St. Patrick's Day storm that left 31 inches of snow. I had a hard time remembering until I looked at my old e-mails and diary.
The reason is that on the third day of the storm we attacked Iraq. That buried all news about our "Storm of the Century" and my memories of it.

(107,032 posts)snow tunnels for the dogs to disappear in (and a few snow caves for the even "hardier" to toke away an hour or two--prior to legal pot, obviously). Those dogs, though, including my own. just had the best day of their lives.
The other thing I remember is how very long it was before any residential streets on Capitol Hill were plowed and how hard it was to walk around the enormous snow piles for weeks afterward when they finally did.

(27,412 posts)Got 5 feet in Grand Lake. I'm having an anxiety attack just thinking about it. Shoveled my carport and paid the guy across the street $100 to bring over his boss's front loader and get the snow out of my driveway.. Shoveled the roof of my laundry room and my then 15 year old daughter jumped off it into the snow and couldn't get out..We both laughed till we cried. My husband was working in Denver, so missed all the fun
Twelve years of school in Grand County and the only snow day my daughter ever got, but the bar in town was open. Went down and played Trivia that night.

(26,897 posts)from Phoenix, AZ in November, 1987. Not long after, a snowstorm dropped three feet of snow on us. It was quite an adventure. One nice thing about Golden was that it took about three days, but they cleared every single street. Every one.

(46,166 posts)There are old cottonwood trees around here. One in our yard and several in the neighbors' behind us along the fence. At least they aren't budded out.
I've been here since 1976 and remember several blizzards. This sloppy, upslope snow gets to me.

(2,012 posts)Everything stopped on Christmas eve. One daughter had to walk home with a chef from the restaurant they were working in who couldn't get his car out. Another daughter and 2 year old took Amtrak from Chicago. When the train got close to the station there was so much snow they had to walk down the tracks; her brother picked them up in the last car running in Denver downtown. The six of us stayed in my one bedroom apartment for three days til my car was plowed out, enjoying Christmas carols, Christmas toys and a delicious Christmas turkey.
