I am thinking of moving back to the Bay Area. Maybe something smaller and cheaper.

The 112-acre Silicon Valley property became a retreat for members of the naturist movement in 1935. Today, its hundreds of members enjoy the resorts clothing-optional hiking trails, pickleball court and its nude-only community pool. (Yes: the members really do hike naked.)
But the family-owned Los Gatos resort is now on sale for nearly $30m and any buyers of the northern California property are likely to abandon its nudist roots.

Under a new owner, Lupin Lodge might return to its pre-1930s history as a vineyard, or be transformed into a high-end rehab center, a luxury RV park or a wedding venue, Pollifrone, the propertys realtor, said. At least one school in the Bay Area has explored purchasing the property as an additional campus or retreat space, he said.

Theres a lot of money in rehab and youd have temptation built right in.

I used to remark that people in the crowded valley got a beautiful view of the coastal hills and ritzy homes, and people in the ritzy (and terribly expensive) homes in the hills got a view of the crowded valley.

And... June-October is Mosquito Time.
Not for me.
Anyone remember the TV show "Naked City"?
(It wasn't actually about naked people.)

(14,922 posts)CA has dry summers and few to no skeeters in most parts. Part of the value proposition. I live in the Sierra foothills and get "seasons" meaning 2 or 3 snowstorms a year, unlike the nearby central valley. Damn pretty up here.

(14,922 posts)I don't ever recall snow on the coastal mountains. It has been seen across the bay on Mount Diablo, which closes, IIRC during snowfall to prevent people from injuring themselves.
Since I've been away for some 10 years, things may have changed.
One of my scariest moments was driving in San Francisco in a 2WD pickup up a steep hill at night in the rain and metal trolley tracks. "It was a dark and stormy night" ...
Always fun to visit the area. When I first interviewed in CA, coming from the east coast, walking around in shirtsleeves in December was something else. I landed in Redwood City in 1980, and the FortyNiners practiced a few blocks away. Good timing. I commuted on the Foothill Expressway, (I live in the Sierra Foothills currently) and there would be Maseratis and Lamborghinis next to me. At stop lights.
All memories subject to correction, since it was a very long time ago. But all positive. (well, there were a couple of really awful jobs along the way).

Yes, they had board meetings naked.
No, he didn't unclothe. He told them that his employer expected him to wear a business suit to all meetings. But actually, you know, he just... didn't want to.
