Southern Arkansas University receives $2.75 million grant for lithium workforce training
Southern Arkansas University has received a grant of $2.75 million to develop workforce training and a talent pipeline for Arkansass nascent lithium industry.
SAU said it would use the funding build avenues for individuals to enter the workforce directly upon leaving high school, provide re-skilling/up-skilling, and create routes to enter degree programs, through their LiTHIUMLEARNS program. SAU will collaborate with major lithium companies, public schools and community partners in the area to implement the various projects through the grant including a mobile STEM learning lab for grade school children, career and technical education grants for teachers, a new chemical industry training lab at the university and the development of a new curriculum and apprenticeships for college students.
The HIRED Grant serves as another example of SAUs role as a central hub for collaboration and regional transformation, uniting stakeholders to advance workforce development through education, innovation and partnerships that strengthen our community and fuel economic growth, Robin Sronce, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, said in a press release.
Sronce was the lead author on the grant application, which can be found below.
