"Sunrise colors depend primarily on the scattering of sunlight by atmospheric particles. Because the sun is low on the horizon, sunlight travels through more atmosphere, scattering blue/violet light away and allowing longer wavelengths—reds, oranges, and yellows—to reach our eyes."
