Related: About this forumAn off-topic post . . .
Two days from today, on Thursday Sept. 25th, I will be in the UCLA hospital in Santa Monica, undergoing a bronchoscopy.
I recently underwent a CT scan for an unrelated problem and this scan showed a lesion in my right lung. My doctors were concerned that it might be cancer, but nobody could discern what this is without getting at it.
So the procedure will happen with me unconscious, and attached to a ventilator. I have done this several times before, and I've always done well with it. After all, I will be completely unconscious! The tube will go down my throat and into my right lung and then into the lesion.
Many samples will be gotten for analysis, cultures and what-not. My doctor tells me we should have results in about a week.
This procedure is set up as an out-patient one, so I should go home that evening. My daughter (who lives 50 miles away) is coming down Thursday morning to help out.
I tend to be pragmatic about this sort of happening. Of course I am concerned but I trust my doctors and their methods.
Thursday I don't expect to be here at all. The procedure is supposed to start at 3:45 p.m. PDT. And it is supposed to last an hour. And of course there will be some time for my recovery before I'm discharged.
Please hold a good thought as I traverse this challenging space . . . My love to all of you!

(77,028 posts)The CT scan for an unrelated problem sounds like it was
very lucky for you. Any thing caught early is much more treatable!

(16,683 posts)My practice is to say a prayer, and I will say that prayer Thursday morning. My prayer will be for you, for the medical team, and for your daughter as I'm sure she will be anxious. Anything medical is scary, but it sounds like you have a realistic attitude towards this.
Know that you are loved here and everyone will be holding good thoughts and positive vibes. Please update us as soon as practical. Until the time of your procedure, may you have peace of mind and comfort. Do some things to pamper yourself and rest and sleep when you can.
All the VERY best...

(51 posts)Having survived a few bouts with cancer, I know the stakes. But all we can do is trust our doctors and do what they say. You seem to have that down pat. I wish you only the best and I hope and pray that the results will not show any cancer.

(12,144 posts)I think you'll sail through the test itself. We are so lucky to live in this day and time. In the past, tests like this were rough, but now, those scopes are tiny and the anesthesia is a miracle. Before you know it, you'll wake up and ask when they are going to do the test.
Will be hoping and praying for a negative (or grade A+) test result. We'll hold down the Fort while you're away.

(8,744 posts)it makes any sense at all. If it doesn't, get a second opinion. Do everything the nurses tell you, as I think they may be running the hospital. Also, once when I woke up from surgery, I was high, chatty and happy, and wondering whether we were going to the party next. May you get some of whatever they gave me to put me out. It's gotta be totally legal, and it was excellent.
