Dawn in the Badlands

My fire season is finally over, and I am headed home. But I had to stop in one of my favorite places for a couple of nights.

The sky, the mist, the rocky hills ahead--they make a compelling photo.

As General Custer lay dying on the ground with his blood soaking in the desert sand, he looked back and said, “At least we don’t have to go back through South Dakota Badlands again.”

Very few tourists, which is generally true for most NP’s if you just get out and do some treks.

I'm really struggling right now with-- everything. Sometimes, the only antidote for the ugly social world that humans have constructed is a reminder of the beautiful physical world that still exits.

Beauty in nature is so healing. So is outer space. There is nothing better to put the pettiness of the human world in perspective than immersing oneself in knowledge or images of Universe.

Thanks again. Truly a breathtaking image.
