(1,152 posts)I love the winter! I live in a rural area in Wisconsin & I have a pretty ride to work each day. I grateful for that. 😊

(19,635 posts)I've always loved winter, just like I love all the seasons in their season. Winter, when the sun is low and the snow becomes light blue and gray. It's magical.

What a way to start the day.
That is going on my playlist.
Blissed out for now, though.

(18,702 posts)Gershwin first found out he was meant to be writing Rhapsody in Blue from a newspaper announcing its premiere... just over a month away. Heres the remarkable story of its creation.
Full story at link is interesting

It was very interesting. First I listened to the story and then once again to the "Rhapsody in Blue" link you posted. That was so much fun.
Gershwin's short deadline reminded me of my students telling me "I work best under pressure!"
That is such a well developed web site, Classic FM. I had never heard of it, but I can see many fun hours of enjoying those links ahead. Did you look at their podcasts tab? I plan on listening to a few of those tonight.
Just about every link off the Gershwin page was of interest to me and there was even a story about Kamala playing French horn! Also on the Gershwin page was a cellist doing 3" from Rhapsody. A link to Gershwin playing the piano, also, very early in his career. Very rare. He was such a showman.
The page is a pain without a popup blocker, so I had a hard time with it on my iPad but on my computer, just fine. I'm going to see about an ad blocker for the iPad. I use AirPods, so that's on the to do list tonight, also.
Here in Jersey we can get about any book we want through BCCLS, a library loan system, so I checked out The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Musical Instruments. My plan is to work my way through it and listen to compositions on every instrument. Right now, for example, I am listening to the lithophone. I'm sure I'll end up buying this book. This project will take a while!
Can't thank you enough for this recommendation. It's added so much to my enjoyment of music.
