I know it looks weird from this angle. This is the root end of one of those ordinary houseplants that vine all over and get extensive. I cut the long strand and stuck it in water and waited for it to grow roots.
Which it did. Just now, I spotted these tiny new shoots! They made me very happy, as they were the first signs that my work would not be in vain. Hope all of you enjoy!
On edit: **See my post #9 for another view and the name of the plant!**

(154,861 posts)It really is fun!
And for me, it's also rare to see success in this sort of scenario.

(340 posts)Congratulations!!
(I'm waiting on a number of cuttings of my silver photos to root, as well.)

(154,861 posts)They keep growing and growing, and getting leggier and leggier, until I have to cut them and put them in water.
The leaves are heart-shaped.
Thanks for your good thoughts, my dear majdrfrtim!

(154,861 posts)I've never really had one root like this one is doing, with the little sprouts coming up. I was so excited about this unexpected development!
It rather does look pretty monstrous, especially if you don't know the back-story!

Enjoy!

(126,336 posts)they would get bushier, not leggy.

(154,861 posts)If you keep them to grow, then you have them everywhere, and if you throw them out, you feel like you're murdering them! ACK!

(87,482 posts)I took ours out to the deck to sit in the fresh air today. It had been inside, with a Gro Light, growing new leaves. These are pretty popular as house plants. They just need sun and they seem to be fairly happy just about anywhere you put them, they're pretty as hanging plants in front of windows. I mix a few drops of Shultz's liquid plant food into a glass of water every now and then, when time comes to water it again.
