Crochet on a magic ring

Happy new year!
Decided to crochet a granny square throw for the first time and am attempting to use magic ring to begin squares. My question is: on the second round, do you go in both loops on the ring crochets or just one?
Thanks for any help.

If you go through the front ring - go through both - it will lay flat. If you go through one ring go through the back from the top and it will create a ridge pattern.

Good luck!

I started crocheting about 3 years ago now. I am absolutely obsessed! I have never tried going through one loop only in the magic ring, I would be afraid I would miss something. Lol.
Are you planning on sewing squares together for your throw or making a continuous granny square?
Either way I am sure it will be beautiful!
Happy stitching and have fun!

I want to sew them together, using purples and greens with ivory for borders, for my new place. Moving to Carlsbad, CA from South Pasadena. Have to sell house after mom's death a year ago.
