(53,410 posts)The first thing you notice is the bright colors popping out at you! Then you see the individual parts, each one a bit of a puzzle. One after another object pulls your attention around the canvas and then it all makes sense that these are objects in a still life.
Your composition is complex and you use disparate shapes within a foundation oh angular and repetitive shapes such as the window parameters framing the repetitive brick wall and window outside the window. The light source is bright even though it is indirect. It seems to come from the brick wall and you soon realize the wall is reflecting the sunlight shining on it.
Its a very bold painting yet you include some delicate touches as in the lavender flowers and the less sharp shapes of the objects. The result is a playfulness comes across because you step out of the bounds of normal still lifes to add some semi jarring shapes and colors which are not easy to define. The result is very interesting. Its as if youre somewhat daring the viewer to figure it all out. I like that and it seems to me that you pushed your own knowledge of a traditional still life setting beyond the normal bounds and rules by incorporating odd shapes and hard and bright colors. I like that a lot because my theory of good artwork is that the artist shows us their mastery of all the rules of painting, composition, lighting, and the use oh shape and color, and then breaks those rules. Thats a true artist!
Thanks! I feel I was right in my theory. Keep breaking those rules because youre shining through!
