I have been working with GERMS on a limited edition version of a floor lamp (only 4 in Edition One, with 1 artist's proof version, which is a variant of the final v1 edition), inspired by GERMS' paintings, which very often feature a floating, tentacled, luchador-inspired figure, which is the model for the lamp.
The four versions of the lamp will be on exhibit at the Vincent Price Art Museum, along with some new paintings by GERMS, as well as his site-specific work.

2011 prototype:
The 2013 versions feature hand-carved teak wood tentacles:
We are still waiting for the delivery of the hand-carved wood from Thailand, and then we have less than 3 weeks to complete the assembly and installation.
I'm a little bit nervous, as we come down to the wire, but have no doubt it will be wonderful.

(5,388 posts)The exhibition opens to the public this Tuesday, September 10, the Opening Reception is September 21, 5-8 PM, and the show runs through December 7, so if you're in the Los Angeles area, please stop by and have a look, especially if you can make it on 9/21.
On edit: Besides the lamps, there are three never before shown Germs original paintings on view.

...at KCET.org. The article, published on the site today, was written by Liz Ohanesian for the web site.
She interviewed Jaime (Germs) and myself (to a much lesser extent!) while we were installing the show at the VPAM.
For those who are not familiar with KCET - Ch 28 in Los Angeles for decades - they were previously the L.A. PBS channel until they became an "independent" channel.

(5,388 posts)...it was a difficult project to get done.
If you're in the Los Angeles area, they'll be in the Vincent Price Art Museum through December 7.
Stop by if you can, they look even better in person (and so do the paintings).
KCET Channel 28 has a poll on their web site. If Germs wins the poll, KCET will apparently do a video documentary about him, so if you gotta minute, please check out the poll and throw Germs a vote! He's up against the real estate tycoon, Eli Broad, who can afford to make his own documentary, I think, so, vote for Germs! Thanks!!

(5,388 posts)...we just came from the Vincent Price Art Museum, where Cheech Marin was doing a book signing this afternoon.
Cheech has several Germs pieces in his collection, so Germs is trying to interest Cheech in acquiring one of the lamps in the show, as two are still available - just as long as it's not the green one, I'm keeping that one.
Here's a pic of me, Germs and Cheech, taken a couple of hours ago in the Germs exhibit:
