Related: About this forumHappy Halloween! My first poster. 18x24 Canson XL. Really didn't like me trying to lay down a sky,
but I like the funky wind effect. I fretted for weeks over the hat and shirt, but they came out great.
I think I'll laminate this guy. Might be easier to hang that way. It's going on the bulletin board.

(14,695 posts)I particularly like the saturation and shadowing in the scarecrow's shirt and cornshock hands.
What brand watercolor kit would you suggest for my teenage granddaughter?
Does the Canson XL work equally as well with colored pencils?

(73,294 posts)a specific type of colored pencil? I'm only familiar with watercolor ones.
If she's doing watercolor, get her good cotton paper like fabriano artistic white or arches. (Cold pressed is better if she's a novice.) Decent brushes matter, too. Princetons are ok. I love my silver black velvets sizes 0-12. But I really recommend getting the travel set if you decide brushes are where you want to spend the money.
Paint, if she likes granulation and is a studio painter, tubes of Daniel Smith in a split primary palette (french Ultramarine and chrome cerulean, quin rose and pyrrol scarlet, hansa yellow light and quin gold, plus sap green, raw and burnt sienna, and raw umber.) So you'd need to give her a palette that can hold that many plus a few more. I can show you my studio and travel palettes, if you'd like. I love plein air and am occasionally doing urban sketching, especially with watercolor pencils and water brushes in the car.
If you think she'd like videos, I have a playlist for urban sketching. Well, 4 of them. Supplies, drawing, beginner watercolor, and intermediate. I also have one is super simple bookmarks and pictures.
