(26,789 posts)Your favorite dog breed is rather apparent, but which others would be in your top 5?

(80,722 posts)Got sick of fighting for the alpha position.
I've had a weenie/beagle mix - darling sweet boy, and love all dogs.
I had a Poodle as a young child. Great dog, too.
Now have a Pittie. Not a breed I would've ever chosen, but Mother Nature sent him to me & he's been here about 7 yrs now. And he is a good boy, very protective but pulls so hard it's ridiculous. (Someone online told me they have pulling competitions for this breed and they can pull up to 5,000 lbs. Cripes. LOL)
I suppose at this stage of life, I would like a smallish, rather fluffy, happy pupper of any breed.
How about you?

(26,789 posts)Currently a male leonberger (120 lbs) and a female Bernese (100 lbs).
A few German shepherds and shepherd mixes.
Our dogs are ages 2 and 4. My wife and I have discussed whether these will be our last dogs as we're aging and it's harder and harder to manage big dogs, particularly if the time comes that we move into a condo or apartment in the next decade or so.
There's a spunky little pug in our neighborhood that we meet up with occasionally on our walks. We've agreed that we might consider a pug rescue once our big puppers are gone.
Is it just my imagination or have Dobermans fallen off in popularity? Maybe it's a matter of circumstance/where I've lived, but I noticed quite a few Dobermands in my youth. As an adult, I rarely ever see one. I'll have to look that up on the great interwebz and see if there's a definitive answer.

(80,722 posts)Sadly, for me, I currently live in the Memphis burbs and it seems the only dogs here are Pitties. No idea why. I've seen a few Labs at the dog park, but that's it here.
Pugs are cute little creatures! I'm not familier with either of your breeds. I'll go look them up!
Yes, I know what you mean about bigger dogs being hard to manage. Our Pittie is only 50 pounds, but that's like 50 pounds of dynamite when he lunges at something (who knows what? LOL) and starts pulling.
Our vet cautioned us, sharing that an older woman had a Rottie in her office and she looked out of the exam room and saw the woman literally flying like a cartoon - both feet off the floor -- being pulled by the dog.
