I generally drink around 40 oz of coffee per morning. I like coffee. Always have.
And I remember Ms. Olsen saying, "The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup!"
Such a nice smile Ms Olsen had! And I have drank Folgers coffee for years. Cheap and tasty.
Or so I thought. Here's what a review says: The coffee supply chain uses pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. They do not offer an organic variety, and all their coffee is pre-ground and not fresh. It may also contain mycotoxins (mold).
Damn. I searched for good coffee. Now, I pay around $0.44 per ounce for ground Folgers.
Good coffee ranges from $1.24 an ounce up.
WHY does good, nutritious food, free of toxins, insecticides and so on, cost SO MUCH MORE?????????????????????
WHY?
And why does it have to be like this? I'm so effing sick of this country. We're told we are exceptional, the best in the world. But because of Wall Street's overweening greed, holding profits above human life and everything else, we have to eat cheap nutrition free shit or else spend an arm and a leg for good food.
Sure would be nice if those we elected (both parties) actually CARED about stuff like this and took policy steps to pull Wall Street's fangs.

(37,700 posts)Bought some Folgers today. I mix it half and half with decaf.
Decaf is the worse for by products. I buy Peets water pressed decaf.

(10,662 posts)So we only buy whole bean coffee. Of course, I have no clue what toxins they may have been processed with. In my case ignorance is indeed bliss. I love coffee to much.
Years ago I decided I was consuming too much caffeine, so I ditched all - even chocolate, and I switched to decaf. I was bragging about it to my son & DIL, who both have degrees in chemistry. They listed all the toxins I was probably ingesting and convinced me to take my chances with the good stuff which is likely to kill me slower.

(14,765 posts)I get it. I used to drink cheap work coffee all day long during my 8 hour shift. (at least until that sent me to a cardiologist)
But, now I have one, maybe two, cups of good joe per day, and I feel much better.
