We were hiking early one morning in the foothills of Boulder & I kept hearing what sounded like a vehicle behind me & kept looking back, but of course there wasn't a car or truck on the trail, but the noise got louder & I finally looked up & saw the silver Zephyr going up the mountain above me. It looked like a giant caterpillar climbing the side of the mountain.

Depart Chicago at 2:00 CST, arrive around 5:00 PST. Everything on time our whole trip. Some trips a few days earlier were delayed a few hours by the frigid weather. Didn't get any new snow while on the CZ; it did pour snow that week at our homes in NC and TN.

You can book overnight stops places like Denver or Winter Park and resume your journey a later day.

When I retired, I donated my frequent flyer miles to Make A Wish.
I don't remember my American or Delta numbers, but my United miles were a pinch over 2.5 million.
A year or so ago, my wife says "Maybe we should go to Italy before we get too old."
Out of curiosity, I checked the United website. 125k miles & a $120 service charge is a 1st class ticket to Rome.
10% of my miles & $240 would have gotten us to & from Rome 1st class.
I told her "Something you might have mentioned before I donated all my miles!"
As I haven't flown coach since the early 90s, I'm not starting now, and I'm way too cheap to spend money on 1st class tickets.
So, it's STRICTLY a dream.

...which I found out when I donated them, is that once Make A Wish has them, the airlines no longer care which airline they came from.
So, a family in your neck of the woods could use my United Miles on USAir or a family in Minneapolis could use them on Northwest. They don't have to be used on United.

I was very lucky to be gifted a visit to Paris, while I was already lucky enough to have been gifted by my aunt to visit her. and my uncle in a sweet little village in western Switzerland! We took the train to Paris!

I did art vlwith my aunt in her amazing studio for 3 weeks w 4 days off to Paris! Sept 2016.

Tall shelves of all kinds of papers. Lots of metal type, and a press for that.

Shelves of dry color powder for mixing paints. Two big long sets of draws that acted like tables too. Small table by the French doors to the outside, and a an inner set of stairs and door to the main house. And while not edible grapevines on the outside of those doors!!!

A big pinting press with w big wheel to turn it. A mini mezzanine w a few steps up with draws of gigantic wood type. The only place I never went to see! Der!

She drew. Did etchings, pastels. Made a few small press children's books, of which I have most. 🩷

Her main thing were beautiful B & W, or multi-colored woodcuts from small to big ? 2 ft by ?18" in. 🥰🥰🥰
She let me pick out a few to take home w me. Been at my sister's apt for years. I think I'm going to get some Canson mien tiens colored paper, put them on there pickng out a suitable color to go w each print, and put them up on the wall. A Springtime 🌱 project! 👍🥰

I did a partial pretty meh little wood cut at my aunt's. First try. Too bad I tried it late in my stay, would have had chance to do better! Maybe. 😄

I did linoleum cuts from teens onward off and on.

In college I actually did engraving... maybe a bit of etching. The print thing w draw on the limestone oh yeah Lithography.

And with her besides doing a pastel (va oil pastels) - never liked the dustiness; we ran my pastel through the printing press to get a softer copy.

There's something else I'm remembering vaguely vs most everything else I remember clearly.

78. Yes, I did the Lithograghy in college. One type of print we did was on metal, You would etch the picture on it and

slightly cut through. Then it was placed the metal plate in a bath of Hydrochloric acid. Gloves and a heavy duty face mask were worn. Then it was placed in a air filter. When dry the acid would eat through the metal plate that was not protected. It was then inked and put through the press. It was dangerous , but the results were beautiful

So a "cookie cutter" goes through so to speak - it's an open item; not engraving or etching where the base material remains mostly uncut into.

The photo shows a big plate with multiples of the (dollar) bills image. However it looks like you can see through it sort of. A lot of it is intricate, so not so easy to see through.
So that seems cookie cutter-ish where the ink goes right the holes.

I'd show you but suddenly the procedure for using Post Image is different. (I wanted to share something on DU about few days ago and couldn't use P I like I used to.

A tangential experience.

When I temped for a Bond agency I occasionally had to handle the bonds.

They were also like paper money made of cotton and linen. They were ? letter paper size. Besides all the text on them - they had the fancy scrolls, and decorative type stuff you'd see on our paper money but in blue instead of green!

And I think I was handing ? $500,000 bonds, if not $1 million!!

97. The first time I flew I asked my doctor for a 2 pills. One to use each way. I always wanted to go to the Grand Canyon

but I was afraid to fly. I was 62. AAA was offering a tour visiting all the National Parks from Denver to the Grand Canyon then south to the Mexican Border. AZ, NM. Utah, Colorado,NV. I had never went on a plane before and guess what I went by myself. I loved it , I told the attendant and they gave me a wing pin that they give kids, HAHAHHAHAHA, The flight took 8 hrs from Pittsburgh to Denver. I so enjoyed it. I didn't get sick or freak out. I had a window seat and was in awe as the plane rose up. It is a felling I can't really describe. It was like being in heaven. I was not in first class. But I know you have to get up and walk every so often. You will love it.When I came home my husband asked me about the take off and landing. He traveled a lot and hated those two times. Me , I love the thrill of the plane going faster and faster until it rose from the ground. Being in the air is like sitting in your living room. --very calm. After that I was no longer afraid to fly and went to Ireland and Scotland. Ask you doctor. if he can give you something to calm your nerves. I used it on the one flight there and didn't use the other on the flight back . I wish you luck. After that I realized that I had missed so many things by being afraid of flying as my husband worked for the Fed Gov. and travelled all over. Do it kimbutgar. you will love it.

98. I've travelled extensively and the last time was in 2019 on a fabulous 10 day cruise in Europe.

My husband worked for a major airline and he retired and we still have benefits. I’m nervous about Air traffic controllers being understaffed and re-entering the country since I’ve been anti you know who and fear I’m on a list. I’ve been reading about people who have been denied re entry for politics postings. My sister in law is a flight attendant for a different airline and she has been seeing a rising of anti American sentiment on her international routes.

The Swiss Alps ARE beautiful. One if favorite spots there is Mürren in the Berner Oberland. Go to Lauterbrunnen and get the cable car up, and stay at the cozy, rustic Hotel Alpenruh. When the clouds part, the view will have you gaping! But that is also close to home. I was just down in Switzerland for work yesterday!

I’d want someplace either new, or else where we haven’t been in a long time.

It has been over 40 years now, but I think I’d like to go back to the Seychelles. We’ve been to Mahé and Praslin, but I’ve been told that La Digue is even more spectacular. Who knows if we’ll ever find the time while we are still mobile? It remains on my wish list anyway.

103. It was a memorable vacation.

The Seychelles are not exactly "convenient" to get to, being close to halfway between Mombasa in Kenya and the western coast of Sri Lanka, in the middle of the Indian Ocean, but it was worth the stress to get there. The people told us that "next time," we just HAD to visit La Digue. We're still waiting for time for a "next time."

Our problem is that there are SO many places "closer" to home that we haven't seen yet. Rome and Venice are 2 hour flights from here. Same with Edinburgjh in Scotland, the west coast of Norway (we've seen Bergen, but there's the rest from Stavanger to Narvik that we haven't). Then there are a few places that are maybe four hours away that probably merit a look, like Morocco, Jordan, Turkey (my wife has been, I have not), Israel (my wife and daughters have been, I have not), Egypt (our younger daughter has been, we have not), and a lot of etc. Then there are always Australia and New Zealand for when we have more time on our hands. That might require retirement on my part, but at (impending) age 74, I guess I shouldn't put that off forever.
