I am going to my 45 High-school Reunion tonight. I wasn't sure I wanted to go. I have been friends with one guy since we were five years old though, and he kept urging me to come. He was, along with 3 girls, the people I hung out with in high-school the most. All but 1 of the other girls are going. There are a few other pretty good friends coming too.
Plus one of the girls who I sat next to in homeroom because our names are alphabetically close, ended up in the same college so we became good friends there. She's going too. So I figured what the heck I will go.
The only thing is some of the people who I went to the abusive Catholic School with are going too, and they were snobs and use to pick on me a lot. My sister said likely they've changed as adults, and fuck them, if they still don't like me. My friend said he will take out anyone if they hurt my feelings,🤣, but still a little nervous. I am not a classy dresser, nice pants and a clean and pressed blouse are about it, and am overweight, but I make an effort to look at least ok. Hopefully that will be enough. 🙏. I am also not sure what to say because I don't work any more because of my severe depression and anxiety, so what do I say if asked about work? I really don't want to mention the depression, though, so I may just blame my bout with meningitis, and not being able to drive anymore, (which is true) or that I retired, but I am only 63. Not sure which. Any ideas appreciated?
Wish me luck. My friend is picking me up, but I will have my sister on standby in case I want to leave early.

(4,403 posts)Sorry you didn't like your HS years. I liked mine, but mostly because it wasn't like grade school, and the teachers were much kinder.

(1,564 posts)and are enjoying not having to be on the clock. Besides, 62 is still considered mandatory retirement in some companies, yes?
I went to one high school reunion, haven't really been interested since. Mostly because my graduating class was over 700 people.

(4,403 posts)Wow 700. That was a big class! We only had 395.

"I'm doing fine, how about you?"
Any questions that make you uncomfortable, just turn them around and put the questioner on the spot.
Good idea!

(253 posts)I hope the night is filled with laughter, smiles and giggles about the silly stuff. Just let go and have a ball. Anyone who doesn't appreciate your company doesn't deserve it; their loss.

(20,352 posts)"Oh, I had to stop working a bit early because of some health problems, but I'm taking good care of myself and life is good".
I know this response is probably a bit late, but you can use that line whenever anyone asks you questions about work.
If they get nosy and ask you what your health problems are, just say you would rather not talk about it.

(647 posts)I was the one asking questions of others and then listened to what they said and I tried to follow up with another question. Like most people, I didn't have a glamorous or exciting job but I did travel and got to live in Europe. When asked about what I've done I honestly tell them without embellishments. As to what I'm doing in retirement I simply say I've enjoying life on my terms doing what I want and when I want. BTW, I retired 22 years ago at age 53 and when they ask why I just tell them it felt like the right time. No further explanation needed.
