Fun fact: Coca-cola created the iconic red coat wearing, high-BMI Santa Claus that we all know in 1931. Prior to that many depictions were gaunt and some wore green coats.

(10,718 posts)Make sure the glass bottle has a red cap - those have sugar not corn syrup.
Sometimes our local store here in NM has Mexican glass coke bottles with the green cap - those will not list the ingredients on the bottle-and everything is written in Spanish. You have to go online to view ingredients. Green cap has corn syrup.

(8,735 posts)Schweppes Bitter Orange or Sunrise Orange Soda when I was younger. Then the original formula Mountain Dew. A&W Root Beer on tap again the old formula from the '60's. Now it's various seltzer waters, Diet Coke etc. I like a good flavored seltzer. Less "flavor heavy" than a Diet Coke. The carbonation comes through nicer also.
We used to have some regional soda companies that had some good things. White Rock had really good orange, raspberry, cherry and other flavors beyond the cola thing and their lemon-lime was way better than 7-Up because it was lighter on the flavoring and the carbonation was more pronounced. Black Bear had tons of flavors. Graf's Root Beer or Ginger ale were some of the best ever bottled but after changing hands so many times it isn't the same.

I don't drink coffee, but I'll be drinking a Coke at 6 am and ending at midnight. I will not under any circumstances drink Pepsi; if that's all they serve, Dr Pepper is acceptable, but nothing else. Can't stand Diet Coke or Coke Zero.

(25,947 posts)I may only have a soda every month, or 2; these past 2 1/2 years.
I usually in the past found Pepsi to be too sweet.
Last year at a restaurant here in way upper Mahattan I had a Coke that tasted different- somehow it had more fizz in it than usual. 😄
I always hated Dr Pepper. It was big with one set of NJ Aunts & Uncles. Whatever herbs etc they included...
Now that was when I was a very picky eater. My palate has expanded like 500%+ . I might dislike it now, vs hate It. Or barely tolerate it. 😄 I'd be a bit surprised if I sort of liked it; been like 62 years since I had one! 😁
I also like (but not it's in the closeby small supermarket, will have to take the bus to a regular size one) the "Simply Juice" brand. Their watermelon(!), and Lemonlimeaide I've had. I just saw Peach (on line) - will have look for that.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Miss Deb
My husband has been using an oxygen concentrator over 5 years now, so I understand how you must want to get off the O2 as soon as you can. His COPD and pulmonary hypertension slow him down, but we still go out and enjoy ourselves, especially to baseball games and old car shows in the summer. We stay home a lot in the cold weather because it gives him bronchospasm; thank goodness winter is over!

I identified all there correctly.

(10,204 posts)There is a very swanky subdivision outside of Chapel Hill, NC called 'The Governor's Club'. I worked for the surveying company that laid it out. When we started, it was just woods and an old farm. (The new lots were going for $500,000... the empty lots. And this was in 1988!)
Every day, my friend and I would carpool to the site. We would stop at the only convenience store close to the site. We would both get our 'Breakfast of Champions'... a king size 5th Avenue and a 20oz Jolt Cola.
I wonder why I am in such bad health these days...

Here in Michigan, we have a brand called Faygo. Every so often, I have a craving for what we call red pop, no doubt left over from my childhood.
debm55
(55,860 posts)MIButterfly
(2,100 posts)All these years, I thought Faygo was only in Michigan. When I was a kid, my mother and I would ride bikes to the park on Sunday and we'd each bring a bottle of Faygo, cream soda for her and red pop for me.
When I lived in Nashville, I was working at a restaurant and served a table of gentlemen from Detroit. I mentioned how much I missed red pop and for three years in a row, when they came back, they'd bring me a six pack of it!
Good memories. Do you have Vernor's in Pennsylvania as well?
