Just some pissing and moaning about a minor injury

I have no one else to vent and worry to, so it’s y’all! Sorry.

According to the internet, my first doctor of choice (I know, I know), I have managed to rupture some muscle fibers in my calf. WTH. All I did was step down off the curb at the convenience store… but I heard a quick series of weird popping sounds and then had what felt like a massive charley horse. Limped to my car and then had a little panic freak out, thinking my Achilles tendon had snapped (I have a phobia about that– like, a stalker lurking under the car and slashing it with a razor knife. The Achilles tendon rolls up to the knee like a window shade when severed. Oh hell no.

Once I felt behind my knee and found no signs of a rolled up, severed tendon, my sanity returned. My calf is sore as hell and I had to gingerly limp four heavy loads of grocery bags up the stairs into the house. And kitty litter. Everything is put away now and me and the cats are ready for the 8-12” of snow on the way tonight and tomorrow, so that is a relief.

Several weeks ago I strained that calf muscle at work while climbing a big storeroom shelf like a monkey to reach a box. It was a small box and I didn’t want to take the time to grab the ladder.

I’m chalking this up to one of those “Giiiiirllll… you ain’t 20, or even 40, any more,” injuries. Lesson learned.

Laid up in bed with an icepack (aka a bag of frozen corn) and taking it easy. Took some Motrin, and very grateful it wasn’t worse. Internet advises RICE and, if it doesn’t improve, or lots of swelling happens, to see a doc. I think I’m good. But, man, it is sore!

Thanks for listening. I love you all. Happy New Year!

1. I'm glad you're getting better. That sounds painful. I've been having sciatic pain.

Specially, in the morning it really sucks. It’s amazing that things our body can do to damage itself. Take care of yourself and don’t rush the recovery.

Oh, I’ve dealt with sciatica pain in the past and it is the worst! It’s so frustrating to not be able to get comfortable in any position, and when you do finally find a comfy position, it only lasts for 5 seconds before it starts hurting. I feel for you and am sending healing vibes. ❤️

No snow shoveling, thank gawd. I live out in the country and have a lovely neighbor who plows my driveway. It’s so funny, I’ve been here about 4.5 years and have never seen him use the same vehicle to plow. Various fourwheelers, tractors, a crazy Gator-looking thing with big tires… he does love him some toys, lol! And he won’t take any money, so I take over Thank You gifts: cookies, liquor, homemade soup, and one time a 2lb bag of fresh sea scallops, which he and his wife were thrilled with (I was a cook at a seafood restaurant at the time). It’s great to have nice neighbors in the country!

thus, your driveway is such an outlet w/ him/wife. And that is nice of them to do that.

Neighbors being neighbors. That's the way it should be in this world, and not the crazy mixed up world in MAGAville.

He’s definitely taking the opportunity to play but is also a good, neighborly guy. I’m in a red county and have wonderful neighbors. Trees go down on our road a lot and most of the time someone has it cut up and cleared before the VDOT trucks arrive. I’ve seen livestock out loose several times and multiple people pull over to herd them off the road and then try to figure out where they live (met some nice young folks a couple months ago while we were having a great time trying to herd 3 beautiful loose pigs, lol). It reminds me of how life was when I grew up.

always wish to remember. My grandma and great-grandma didn't drive but lived 20 miles from town, they never lacked for a ride, the neighbors were that nice, and even the mail person, would do them a favor and bring them something if they needed it.

It's kind of still like that out there in rural land, but it's getting harder and harder to find...

So nice of you to have such wonderful neighbors, rounding up the loose stock, clearing fallen trees, etc. All of which goes into helping the entire neighborhood!

Take care, and if you have snow/ice there, be careful out there!

I totally relate. Slowing down and thinking of my aging body can be difficult when in the middle of gettin’ stuff done! Once the Motrin kick in fully, I’m putting a chuck roast in the crockpot. It’s my favorite meal and I had planned on putting it in the freezer for later use but… Nah. I deserve it tonight! And tomorrow.
I got some mint chocolate chip ice cream at the store, too.
