Historians say in turn that Beethoven didn't want to meet Schubert because he was embarrassed by his hearing difficulties.
Schubert would be one of the pall or torch bearers at Beethoven's funeral in Mar 1827.

Beethoven, that is. Malcolm McDowell called him Ludwig Van in A Clockwork Orange. Malcolm McDowell's character Alex and I don't click on very many levels, but I do like his taste in music. Especially Beethoven's third, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth symphonies, all of his piano concertos, the Kreutzer sonata, and the triple concerto. After Beethoven, give me some Mahler or Sibelius, or Baroque music, especially Bach, Handel or Vivaldi.
But I don't think that's the kind of music you're talking about.
Well, then, how about the Beatles? John, Paul, George and Ringo are the best band ever. Nobody else is even close. In my humble opinion. You've probably heard the musical term "The Three B's". In case you haven't, it refers to Bach, Beethoven and Brahms. Well, I frankly never have cared much for Brahms, so my Three B's are Bach, Beethoven and Beatles.
On edit: I didn't know it when I posted this, but coincidentally, TCM is showing A Clockwork Orange in about 45 minutes.

songs by other groups performers ,old and newer that I rank up there with these people.
Like:
Roam>B-52s
Everybody Wants to Rule... >Tears for Fears
?Suburbs/Suburbia> Arcade Fire
(alright, not even recent here 😄 )
So much more
The most recent thing, and it's not really recent is something by Jason Isobel & the 400 Unit.
I have to get back to listening to my Local University Radio station more.
I do catch recent performers. I hear them, but not listening enough to have songs/name stick in my mind relatively recently.
Too much following politics on the radio these past bunch of years!
More music!
🎤🎸 🔊🎵🎶🎶 😄
Maaaybe....
if I more dedicatedly listened between 8P - 10P except Mondays for Jen, and Rachel. Plus Sat afternoons I'd get more names & songs. Gotten out of habit.
I've actually tried this a few times, so far hasn't worked.
Still serious about my music! Since 1964! 🥰 😄
Oh, enjoy C,S,N, & Y! And Neil alone.
Me, my sis, and a cousin got to see them...
the night when as so many people were carrying radios...
Sometime halfway or more through someone ran up to ?Crosby, then he announced ....
Nixon had resigned!!!
Joyous, acoustic outburst! 😄😄😄

It's not the traditional Christmas song that the name suggests, but quite a long, modal piece of excellent, jazz musicianship based on the Christmas classic. It surrounds your mind and somehow causes your head to move along with it's mesmerizing sax and piano solos.
Elvin Jones is on drums and Steve Davis on bass.

(20,987 posts)I am listening to Michael Bolton. His songs came up often on YouTube shorts so I looked up his work. I saw where he had brain surgery to remove a tumor last year. I got wound up in his songs and the writer Diane Warren who wrote many of his songs - love songs. I even read his autobiography and was so impressed. He is a good man, or as my neighbor said after reading it as well - he is a mensch.
I related to his childhood and crazy things we did back in the day - like driving a Wonder bread truck to California from Connecticut as a teenager in his case. This was back before the days of the helicopter parent where moms were too busy to do much more than corral her kids once in a while.
The other surprise was the work by Diane Warren. She is a prolific song writer, mainly loves songs. The amazing thing is, she is on the spectrum and though she tried have a long term relationship once, it was not for her. The lyrics could be seen as idealized love/romance songs, but one in particular was stunning in its perception of love - In the Arms of Love. It more resembles the love we wish all children should receive.
While delving into this obsession, I learned a lot about someone I did not appreciate back in the day. He worked 10 years until he had a hit and never gave up. He lives with integrity as well. A film will be coming out on January 10 about Diane Warren - a most unique and talented woman.

(9,930 posts)I go with the mood I'm in. So probably the most frequent are The Jam, Radiohead, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Neil Young, Cat Stevens, T-Rex, Jeff Buckley, Kate Bush, Bjork, Sex Pistols, Adam Ant, Bauhaus, The Clash, Joy Division, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, The Ramones, Talking Heads, B-52's, Makem & Clancy, The Pogues, Corelli, Haydn, Chopin, Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Lauren Hill, Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick and a million others. I'm leaving sooooooo many out.
I like just about every genre. The only ones I've never liked much are Southern Rock, Easy Listening, Heavy Metal and a lot of Pop or Country (I like the old stuff but that's about it. (Think Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr, Patsy Cline)
I grew up on Classic Rock and folk mostly (thanks Mom!) Southern Rock lost me. I just couldn't get into it so it led me to R&B and Soul, then Punk, Post Punk, New Wave, Alternative, etc and the rest is history.

(5,223 posts)Phish (#1) and Radiohead (#3) align with what I posted above, but the Grateful Dead was my #2 most listened to band in 2024. Huh. Didnt even realize it. Rounding out my Top 5 were Jerry Garcia and the Smiths.
Yes features pretty heavily in the 2024 Recap playlist the app made, so I wasnt too far off in my guesses.
Judging by the playlist, The Police, Beastie Boys, and Parliament were the other frequent flyers. Steely Dan, Billy Strings, and Bob Marley and the Wailers have a robust presence, as well. Jerry shows up in several forms: JGB, Garcia/ Grisman, and the Pizza Tapes, which is why he claimed a spot in the Top 5, I guess. That one surprised me even more than the Dead at #2.
