Anybody have a molar pulled

And just not replace it? I really want to finish up with the tmj dental work that Ive paid for. I don't want to continue with this dentist. If my back molar is pulled. I don't want to replace it. I'm beyond gaf anymore. Frankly, if my jaw popped now, Id probably not treat it. I cannot keep pouring cash into my mouth. I'm 59. I'm not going to be homeless w 100k worth of dental work in my mouth.

1. My husband did about 30 years ago at 25yrs old.

He was deathly afraid of the dentist. His previous dentist would short him novacane, so he'd feel the pain as a kid. He never went back to have a temporary fixed.

We met, I found a sweetheart dentist and he had it pulled, but his wisdom tooth was erupted so the gap closed quickly, and there is only a small gap, and he never had an any issue with it all this time.

2. I did. I didn't see any point in replacing a tooth I didn't really need

and nobody could see. The tooth was cracked and had to be removed because the root was getting infected. Dentist said it really didn't have to be replaced, although it was possible that the alignment of the remaining teeth could be affected. That doesn't seem to have happened, as far as I can tell. This was about 10 years ago, no problems since.

3. I have zero lower molars on either side. I lost them all to radiation for cancer. Two of them

required root canals and were then cut off at the gum line after the radiation made extraction impossible due to jaw bone damage. One was 'pulled' prior to the treatment and one just fell out on its own from the bone damage. Of course, my wisdom teeth were gone from my 20s.

Nothing replaced. But I'm a very slow eater due to a lack of chewing surfaces.

My teeth shifted to accommodate the extra space and I get lots of food stuck in the wider gaps. I wish I had replaced it in retrospect. It's more of an annoyance than a serious dental issue though.

Wasn’t a bad procedure. They said they would have to “rebuild” the area to insert an implant and it wasn’t going to be cheap. I had to wait a while anyway and got used to the missing tooth.

So, declined the implant. My dentist suggested a permanent bridge attached to the bordering teeth. Since cleaning around the attachment is difficult, cavities often happen. I declined that.

I’m doing just fine with a missing molar. No complaints so far.

Besides charging me most of my cash my fabulous dentist missed oh a fucking abcessed molar extending up into my sinus. Then they started talking about a post. I'm halfway into my tmj dental work which was supposed to be done several weeks ago. I'm sick of all of it and don't want to use up all my savings. My family blames me for the dental injury btw. Ìm getting shit on left and right

10. Your teeth may shift a little, but it may feel better in the end.

Pull it, and wait a year.

If it bothers you, you can do something then.

14. Did your ENT attribute all the problems you'd been having to the abscess (and did they successfully treat?)

i.e., drain, flush, culture, and start you on systemic antibiotics pending cultures?

I hope you are getting some relief.

Dentist rough handled my lower tmj jaw. Hurt me. I'm desperately trying to get imaging to c what he did to me and perhaps sue. My gp ordered a ct for jaw pain and facial tingling. That's what showed the abscess or cyst. Dentist said everything looks great. Ent had nothing to do w any of it except say my ears look good

6. I had a molar pulled and an implant placed
Thu Jan 2, 2025, 10:17 AM

but it is next to a space where I had another molar pulled and not replaced. It has been 15 years with the gap one and it is fine.

I have another missing upper that is vaguely noticeable. I lost it in 2017. The dentist tried to get me to replace it but I really didn’t want an additional dental surgery cost of thousands and an additional pain. Nothing like paying a ton of money for pain!

My advice is your mileage may vary but for me it was a good decision to leave the 2 open. If more go I will have surgery. I think it is a crime that teeth matter for older folks as far as health yet it is treated as a privilege of money. At least I had a choice unlike poorer folks.

8. My back molar implant cost over $5k and I had a dental rider on my Med Advantage Plan

It took two years because the first try got infected and the whole thing had to be done over. The Dental Surgeon offered to return all my money if I wished, but I was willing to do the whole thing over for what I had already spent. Do it over again ? No way.

13. You mean "wisdom teeth" ? I had both upper and lower pulled on the left side.

One was impacted, the other headed that way. The dentist told me it was a bad idea to have only one (lower or upper pulled) if you didn't replace it, but if you pulled both it would be OK. I guess if the other tooth doesn't have a tooth to occlude, it can keep growing without being ground down as fast.

On the top. I have none on the bottom. I want to get complete implants. I am not a Rockefeller so that is not going to happen. I tried to get dentures while I was on state assistance but I have lost a few more teeth since then and now they are useless to me.

It is up to you. Molars cannot be easily seen and therefore I doubt you would have to deal with what I have been dealing with. Since I am down almost half of my teeth, it plays a big part in how people interact with me. I am seen as less 'engage-able' I guess.

Mainly because people are too programmed with things like the 'Greek Ideal'.
