Are you West of The Mississippi River?
As I understood for decades usually
only Ruby Throated Hummers are east of the Mississippi River. I'm eastward.

(25,134 posts)6. The first time I saw a hummingbird, I was around 8 years old,
alone in our back yard. It was hovering over a flower with its wings fluttering so fast that I couldn't quite make out what it was. It made a buzzing sound. I was frightened because I thought it was a huge bee with a long stinger in front.
Ran indoors and said there was a giant bee in the yard. My mother took a look and laughed, told me what it was.
