The Pigeon that Saved the Lost Battalion and was award the Medal of Valor

The last year of World War I, 500 French soldiers were trapped behind enemy lines. They were getting shelled by their own people.

A major sends the pigeon off for help. The pigeon gets shot in the breast, loses an eye and his leg is hanging from a tendon.

But he flies all the way back to base, delivers the message and the troops are saved. Because of that pigeon.

The pigeon’s name was Cher Ami (Dear Friend) and for his bravery and heroism,
he was awarded the French Medal of Valor.
