They set it up before they left for home. I keep checking to see if any of the squirrels are willing to try it. It is a little picnic table with 2 cups, an umbrella and a prong for a corn cob. I put half an orange on it and it's set on the actual picnic table. Entertaining

(19,495 posts)I have to get on a little step stool to get a good picture. Screens in the windows are on the bottom. If I take a picture thru them, the mesh shows up over the whole photo.
I have other feeders in the yard I filled Monday. Right now, there are 4 squirrels and they are taking turns checking out the new thing, like it's a trap. Years ago, we got a super heavy, thick rope, like mooring line, and tied it between 2 sweet gum treese in the back yard. The squirrels use it as a highway, which is entertaining all by itself. The squirrels are running between the established feeders at the end of the yard and this new thing close to the house. I'm thinking of the old commercial "I'm not going to it. Let Mikey try it!" lol
Sounds adorable!

(18,998 posts)I lived in a small 4 flr apt building on a block in Brooklyn: mostly with brownstones, or a few short buildings like mine. So the whole center of the block was filled with backyards!
Anyway, to my surprise there were telephone poles just past the backyard (or just inside?), running parallel to the building! I used to see the squirrels run back, and forth on the wires! 🐿 😄

(19,495 posts)It was a big hit as soon as we tied it between the trees. It's a natural fiber rope. Even constantly exposed to all kinds of weather, it has held up. The squirrels run across the top of the rope, or hang from the underside. The acrobatics are amazing. The branches of the trees are close enough they can leap, but the rope is a sure thing. lol

This was some years back.

(19,495 posts)One of them was a guy trying to thwart the squirrels from getting into the bird feeders. Another was an English video creating obstacles to the feeder to see how long it took the squirrels to figure out how to get through the obstacles. No matter what countries or obstacles, the squirrels solved every problem.

When I got up this morning, the half orange I stuck on the prong was gone. One of the squirrels was was sitting on its little picnic table, taking up all the space under the umbrella as it cleaned out the metal cups.
